May was a great month.  Our trip to the Bronx Zoo was awesome.  We got to see a lot of the animals that we learned about in Science.  Our bug unit was cool, too.  Our show and tell day for insects was great.  We investigated the bugs the kids brought in; and then set them free!  We had ants, caterpillars, and moths.  The moth was really pretty.  It was pink and fuzzy!

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.  We enjoyed field day in our last week of school.  The kids ran obstacle courses and got wet with sponge races.  Then it was time for graduation.  It is always a very exciting time, but also a little sad for me.  I am so proud of my kids, but I am really going to miss them next year!

I hope everyone has a fun-filled summer.  Tiffany Evans signing off for the the 2007-2008 School Year!

April
May 12th, 2008 5:35 PM

April was a good month.  In Science, we worked on the farm.  We talkied about seeds, vegetables, farm animals, and enemies of the farm.  We had a great couple of days working on the gingerbread man.  We even went on a hunt for our cookies that we made.  Someone took them and hid them from us.

Grandparent's Day was great.  Mrs. L put on a great show with the kids for the Grandparents.  We made butter in our room with Andrew's grandparents and Katheryn's mom.  The kids read books and drew ladybugs for their guests.

We are looking forward to our Spring Concert.  I hear the kids are going to be pigeons in one of their songs.  That should be interesting!

March
March 2nd, 2008 2:41 PM

February was a crazy month.  We have had many snow days and a nice long weekend for President's Day.  Our Valentine's Day Party was great!  We got to exchange cards with the First Grade; and there was a ton of yummy food.  We just finished our first 100 Days of School as well. We had a great time celebrating!

This month we have a lot of excited too.  We have the Art Show on the 13th.  Our open house is during that same day as well.  Theme week is the 17th-19th.  The children will see a skit and a puppet show about our Inside, Outside, Upside Down Theme.  This basically will give the children an idea that living a Christian Life should look different than a non-Christian life.  Easter break is the 20th-25th.  I pray you enjoy this time with your family.

We will be studying God's Nonliving World this month.  We will discuss materials God has given us to make all the things we use on a daily basis.  We will take a look at landforms and bodies of water and even the weather.  This is a fun month for the kids.  We get a chance to use hammers and nails in the classroom.  (And if we have time, we even get to make some homemade paper!)

February 2008
February 4th, 2008 5:59 PM

Last Month was a lot of fun.  We learned a lot about Winter and the animals and Eskimos that live in Alaska.  We made igloos and life-size people who were dressed to go outside.

We began our first Spelling Unit.  The kids did a great job.  They were a little nervous with ABC order, but somehow we made it through!

Spiritual Emphasis Week was incredible!  Check out what we learned and see some pictures of us having a great time with the Coastland Crew.

This month we are studying Health and our Nation.  We will be celebrating DAY 100.  We also will have a Valentine's Day Party on the 13th with the First Grade.  Be sure to send in your Valentines and your Party items.  This will be a great way to begin our five day break!

January 2008
January 6th, 2008 11:13 AM

Well, I am glad to be back in the classroom after the much needed break.  The kids enjoyed their first week back to school.  (Especially since it was so short!)  This month's theme is Winter.  We will be working on the calender and what the season is like using our senses.  We will also be learning about Eskimos and numerous Arctic Animals.

We have a PFF meeting Tuesday the 15th.  All are welcome.  Child care is available.  We will also be having our Annual Spaghetti Dinner on the 25th.  The papers went home on Friday.  If your child would like to participate, please start working with them now.  They could do something as simple is reciting one of our verses.  It is just fun to get them up on stage.  They are just so cute!

We will be working on Colossians 3:24-25 this month.  DUC Day is on February 1st for this month.  Don't forget to be reading with your child.  (15 minutes 5 nights per week)  This is homework, but remember that they get an extra DUC Day pass for their efforts!

Have a great month!

Christmas Break
December 20th, 2007 6:03 PM

Our last week of school before the break was great!  We finished our Christmas lessons.  We had our Christmas Concert.  We had a Math Bee.  And we had a Christmas party with the First Grade.

Pastor Mike G. spoke to us in Chapel about what we really need in life.  The world wants us to think that we need knowledge, science, riches, and entertainment.  We know that we need the Lord.  We need a Lord who would come down from his great throne in heaven to become a lowly baby and grow into a man who would take the sins of the world on his own shoulders and die on the cross for us.  We serve a truly amazing God!

Take a look at our new pictures.  Pictures of our concert.  Pictures of Andrew and Katheryn in the Math Bee.  I even got a shot of Katheryn's Sister winning the whole thing!!  I got shots of the kids at the party as well.  The party was great.  We played musical chairs and got toys in our stockings.  We are grateful for the First Grade Class for their hospitality!

Have a blessed Christmas.  Enjoy your break and we'll see you after the New Year!

December 10th-14th
December 16th, 2007 3:49 PM

We continue to move forward on our Christmas and Advent lessons.  The kids enjoy lighting the candles on Tuesday for our Advent wreath.  We have already lit the candles of Hope, Peace, and Joy.

This week in Chapel we broke up into small groups to discuss lies.  The children had to make up skits to show positive and negative outcomes of lying.  They had a great time acting out their skits and learned a lot from their discussions in small group.

We made apple cinnamon ornaments this week when we discussed the smells of Christmas.  We used all of our senses when we made our dough.  I even let them eat a bit of applesauce and taste a bit of the dough.  Katherine ran straight for the trash can!  Equal parts apple and cinnamon do not make for "Good Eats!"

December 3rd-7th
December 12th, 2007 6:28 PM

We had a great week.  We are moving quickly through our numbers in Math.  The kids are catching on, but they will need to practice identifying their numbers at home before their test that will take place before the break.

Mr. Justice was our speaker for Chapel.  He talked about lying and the reasons for telling the truth.  He compared telling the truth to pulling out a burr that is stuck in your skin.  It will hurt when you pull it out, but the pain will then go away.  Just like if you tell the truth, it might hurt (you might get punished), but then you can ask for forgiveness and then there is no more pain.

We learned in Social Studies that Hallelujah means "Praise God".  We discussed many things that we praise God for.  We are thankful for animals and our families.  We are also thankful, of course, for Christmas and for God's Greatest Gift--Jesus!

November 26th-30th
November 30th, 2007 5:49 PM
We had a great week after our long break.  We began our Christmas theme and the room is decorated for the season.  We discussed the Advent Wreath and began Advent devotions.  We read "The Candymaker's Gift" on Friday and made Candy Cane Cookies.  We also watched a Nativity movie and began making ornaments for our tree.  Andrew and Katheryn even had a sleep over this week!

Thanksgiving
November 21st, 2007 8:34 AM

The last 2 weeks have gone by so fast.  We only had 5 days of school, but we got so much done.  We have been learning about the Pilgrims and their Indian friends for Thanksgiving.  The children really enjoyed the unit.  We had our annual turkey dinner yesterday.  It was great.  The kids in Kindergarten and First came in their Pilgrim hats; and we even had a 6th grade Indian.

I pray you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We we return from our break, we will begin our Christmas theme in Social Studies.  I am not sure who is more excited-me or the children!
